William “Bill” Curtis Weirough, 77, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 4, 1948, in East Canton, Ohio, to Bob and Mary Ellen Weirough, Bill grew up with a strong work ethic, a deep love for the outdoors, and a lifelong faith that guided every part of his journey. He graduated from Miami University in 1970 — once a Redskin, always a Redskin — where he was a proud member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. It was there he met the love of his life, Sue (“Susy”), beginning a “Miami Merger” and a marriage that lasted more than 55 years.
Bill spent his career in the insurance industry, where he was known for his fairness, professionalism, and compassion in helping people through both everyday and life-changing claims. Beyond his work, Bill gave generously of his time and talents, volunteering with the Jaycees, various Episcopal Churches, Ducks Unlimited, and as a Hunter Safety Instructor. In all things, he led with service, integrity, and a genuine heart for people.
At the center of Bill’s life were his faith, his family, and farming. He and Sue built a life grounded in love, laughter, and shared purpose. He is survived by his wife and their four children: Becky Brand (Jim), Barb Weirough, Bob Weirough (Erin), and Ben Weirough (Annie). He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol and her husband Leonard (Bucky) and is further survived by his sister Linda Collins (Jeff) and many nieces and nephews.
He was a proud grandfather to Bella Larson (Adam), Jon Weirough (Karly), Dan Brand, Emma Book (Micah), Wil Weirough (Sophia), Mike Weirough, Joe Brand, Josh Weirough (Bree), and Nathan Weirough — and a delighted great-grandfather to Calvin and Felicity Larson.
Bill will be remembered for his steady wisdom, dry humor, and the joy he found in having his family close — whether gathered around the kitchen table, sitting by a campfire, or standing in the woods. He was a man who worked hard, gave back freely, and loved deeply.
Many thanks to Columbus Nursing and Rehab as well as the Lupine Team with Agrace Hospice for their compassionate care.
