Verna Jean Goold

August 22, 1931 — December 30, 2025

Verna Jean Goold, 94 of Verona & formerly of Dodgeville passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 30th at Sylvan Crossing memory care in Fitchburg after a 10 year battle with Dementia.

She was born on August 22, 1931 in Dodgeville to Roland and Elva (Wilcox) Hughes. She grew up in Ridgeway, Wi and was a 1950 graduate of Ridgeway High School.

In 1953 she married Gilbert Studee of Mineral Point, who preceded her in death in 1958.

Then in 1969, she married Perry Goold of Waldwick, WI.

Early in her working career, she waitressed at the Wayside Inn, Dodgeville, Renneboms in downtown Madison and also at Ed’s Truckstop in Platteville.

After marrying Perry, they managed the El Rancho motel in Dodgeville before becoming the proprietors of the Kickapoo self service gas station along highway 18 in Dodgeville. After the closing of the station, she was a long time childcare provider before becoming a familiar face at McDonalds in Dodgeville for many years.

Lastly, she was a longtime foster grandparent at Dodgeville Elementary school before retiring.

She is survived by a daughter, Kristine (Bob) Dreger of Verona and a son, Karri (Kendra) of Portage, 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a great, great granddaughter.

Also surviving is a sister in law, Sharon Hughes of Hidden Valley Lake, California. Her nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Gilbert & Perry, parents, siblings and her son, Lonnie Studee.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2026.
