Tyrone Joseph "Ty" Sandlin, age 69, a stylish ladies' man (I hear you laughing dad), audiophile, with a green thumb, passed away peacefully in hospice at William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022, following a very short fight against pancreatic cancer. He spent his last weeks surrounded by his family and friends who showered him with love. His spirit is carried on by his two children, two grandchildren, two surviving siblings, and an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life.
He was born on Sept. 15th, 1953, in Victoria, Texas, to Maxine(Wallace) and Ernest Sandlin. After moving a great deal for the military, his family settled in Mazomanie, WI, surrounded by the best relatives a kid could ask for. After high school, he joined the Air Force, mostly to impress his father, and stayed in for four years as a Weather Technician out in Virginia. He loved it! After that, he joined the reserves for fourteen years, while working at UW-Madison and for the State of Wisconsin, doing a handful of different positions throughout those 30 years. When he wasn't working for a living, he was doing something with his hands, his project lists consisted of yard improvements, furniture refinishing, professional art framing, cooking, and reading. He took pride in his daughters and was wise with his words, typically constructed in little love notes or cards.
Gentle, Humble, Stoic, Selfless, Soft spoken; These are some of the words repeatedly mentioned to us time and time again throughout the last month of his life. When he found out he had metastatic cancer, he looked at the doctors and told them, “It’s ok. I had a good life, a loving family. I’m going to be OK.” He helped a lot of people, he gave what he could and didn't want any credit. He encouraged anyone who needed it. He was a great listener. He will be greatly missed by many.
He was survived by Stacy (Ryan Marx), Becca (Geoff Mauch); children, Emma and Gracie; siblings, Tim and Janice; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends, and family too numerous to list, but not forgotten. Ty is reunited with his parents, Ernest and Maxine(Wallace), and is predeceased by his brother, Tom; nephew, Tommy; and niece, Stephanie.
