Thomas John Smith, 77, of Windsor, Wisconsin, passed away on June 17, 2024, in Baraboo, Wisconsin.
Born in Madison, Wisconsin, Tom had a proud and determined personality. He was known for his hard work, storytelling, and sense of humor, making him admired among family and friends. His creativity shone through his various interests, including model trains, antique car collecting, and genealogy. He also enjoyed the outdoors through camping, fishing, hunting, and home projects.
He was a student at St. John's Catholic School and graduate of Waunakee High School in 1964. Tom furthered his education at Madison Area Technical College where he earned his Associates Degree in the Machine Tool program in 1994.
Tom's career was as diverse as his interests. He served in the US Army Reserves for 12 years, where he honed his skills as a weapons repairman and instructor. His civilian career included roles as a farmer, millwright, college instructor, and mechanic, with a specialization in machine tool program and design.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Smith of 55 years; his children - Lisa Johnson, Patrick (Christine) Smith, Bradley Smith, and Theresa (Ryan) Peterson; his siblings - Judy Smith, Trish (Ron) Pulvermacher, and Jerry Smith; as well as his six granddaughters: Miranda, Sydney, Ariana, Naomi, Chloe, and Emma; and great-granddaughter, Trinity. Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Smith; father, Elwin Smith; and sister, Meredeth Smith Lewis.
Tom will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of hard work, humor, and creativity will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 14, 2024 from 1pm - 5pm at The Red Mouse, 3738 County Rd P, Cross Plains, WI.
