Suzanne "Sue" Louise Miller, of Middleton WI, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her husband, daughter and son at the age of 70 on August 31st, 2025. Born in 1955 to the late Mary and Frank Vachlon in Berwyn IL, Sue was known for her generous spirit, independent strength and her unwavering dedication to her family.
Sue’s passions were deeply rooted in her home and her heart. She found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life: cooking for her loved ones, caring for her pets, fishing and working in her flower beds & gardens. Her dedication to her family extended to the baseball field on summer evenings, where she was her son's biggest fan from toddler t-ball, through his home talent games as an adult. A true animal lover, Sue doted on her beloved horse, Bee, for 18 years, and spoiled her cherished dogs Ruth and Katie. Even the occasional stray animal could count on Sue for an elaborate meal or warmth and shelter on snowy Wisconsin nights.
As an accomplished equestrian, riding coach, and lifelong horse lover, Sue shared this passion with all ages, fulfilling her dream of returning to horsemanship after a career as an executive assistant and home caregiver. Her careers highlighted her kind and caring nature through compassion and support. Her family loyalty and strength proved unwavering when she cared for her late sister, Elizabeth Vachlon, during her end-of-life journey. She was fiercely independent, exemplified poise and grace but was never afraid to get her hands dirty for the love of her hobbies. That trait was never more apparent than when baiting her own hook as a lifelong fisherman and her partial success at growing green beans in her garden.
Above all, Sue's world revolved around her family. She was the devoted wife of Brian Miller, with whom she shared 45 years of love and partnership. Her children were the guiding force of her life. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Bob) Mannina of Herndon, Virginia, and her son, Wyatt Miller of Dodgeville, Wisconsin. She took great joy in her role as “Grammy” to her grandchildren Nyla, Natalie, Nolan, and Malakai, who will forever cherish the memories they made with her.
Sue will be deeply missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to feel her generous spirit. She has embarked on her final, endless trail ride, forever joined with her beloved horse, Bee.
A celebration of life will be announced at an upcoming date. Our family wishes to thank everyone of the “Moments Hospice” Team of Madison for their care, love and friendship during her journey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sue and Bee’s names to a local horse or animal rescue of your choosing.
