In Loving Memory of Roberta “Bert” Wills
Roberta “Bert” Wills passed away peacefully in her sleep at home during the early morning hours of October 12, 2026, following a short but fierce battle with cancer and a rare neurological condition. She spent her final days surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Born in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, Bert was the daughter of Doris and Morris Wills. After the passing of her father when she was six years old, she was primarily raised by her mother, who instilled in her the importance of strength, independence, and kindness. These qualities remained central to who she was throughout her life and became values she would later pass on to her own children.
A hardworking and fiercely independent woman, Bert dedicated much of her life to providing for and caring for those she loved. She worked at Cub Foods for over 20 years, where she built lasting relationships with both coworkers and customers. She also devoted 13 years to Menards, demonstrating the same work ethic and dedication that characterized so much of her life. As a mother of three, she worked tirelessly to ensure her children were cared for, often juggling multiple jobs and responsibilities. Even with so much on her plate, she never hesitated to open her home or extend a helping hand to family members in need. Through her actions, she taught her children the importance of hard work, compassion, and generosity.
Bert often found happiness in life’s simpler pleasures, whether that meant watching crime shows, reading Western romance novels, working on puzzles, or spending time with her beloved cats. She had a special love for animals, country music videos, and evenings spent around a bonfire. She also enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping adventures and the opportunity to spend time in nature.
Her appreciation for life’s simple pleasures was matched by a willingness to step far outside her comfort zone to make those she loved happy. In the summer of 2026, she faced one of her greatest fears by boarding a plane to California to surprise her youngest daughter for her birthday. During that visit, she trekked through Sequoia National Park, explored Hearst Castle, and embarked on an unforgettable three-hour whale-watching excursion, holding on tightly as the boat crashed through the waves of the Pacific Ocean. These adventures became especially treasured memories, reflecting her willingness to embrace new experiences and make meaningful moments with her family.
Those who knew Bert will remember a woman who was strong-willed, stubborn, and quick-witted. Beneath her tough exterior was an incredibly kind heart and a deep love for those around her. Her strength, generosity, and unwavering dedication to those she loved will remain a lasting part of her legacy.
Bert was preceded in death by her parents, Doris and Morris Wills; her brother, Rodney Wills; her sister, Roxanne Reiners; her half brother, Thomas Wills; and her longtime partner, Randy Bauer.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Wills; her children, Scott (Nikki) Wills, Stacy Brabender, and Sabrina Wills; her granddaughters, Raven Wills, Josselyn Brabender, and Gracie Wills; and her two beloved cats, Millie and Luna.
Her family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Agrace Hospice Care, who helped ensure her comfort and dignity during her final days. A special thank-you goes to her hospice nurse, Mo, whose extraordinary kindness, compassion, and care meant more to the family than words can express.
A private burial will be held for Bert on November 13, 2026, followed by a celebration of life on November 15, 2026. Her celebration of life will be held at Burke Town Hall 5365 Reiner Rd., Madison, WI, 53718 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Bert leaves behind a family shaped by her strength, independence, and compassion. The love she gave, the sacrifices she made, and the values she instilled will continue to shape the lives of those who knew and loved her.
