Robert Maurice (Bob) Coon, 91

Born January 14, 1934 in Plainfield, WI to Raymond Maurice and Nellie Marie Coon. He passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025.

Bob graduated from Plainfield High School and attended the University of Wisconsin School of Agriculture. He served in the US Army, stationed primarily in Huntsville, AL at the Red Stone Arsenal. Upon discharge from the Army, he returned to Madison, WI and worked as a drafting technician at Gisholt Machine Company. When the company left Madison, he worked for the City of Madison Engineering Department until he retired at age 62.

On January 5, 1963, Bob married Mara Kraule. They lived on the Northeast side of Madison where they raised their two sons, James and David. He was an active participant in their extracurricular activities. He coached Little League for many years. He helped engineer pinewood derby cars with his boys.

He loved to be a part of his kids and grandkids lives. He was an avid bowler, hunter, fisherman, boater, golfer and gardener. He always enjoyed supplying neighbors and friends with produce from his well-maintained garden. He was always happiest at their cottage in Northern Wisconsin and on Little Spider Lake.

He is survived by his two sons: James (Marie) Coon of Phoenix, AZ and David (Heather) Coon of Holmen, WI, three granddaughters: Megan (Jacob) Beland of Madison, WI, Katrina (Matthew) Berhow of Phoenix, AZ, and Sophia Coon of Holmen, WI and one great-grandson: Axel Berhow, his sister, Shirley Walker, The Villages, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mara, his parents, R. Maurice and N Marie Coon and 2 sisters, Mary Sullivan and Joanne Johnson.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Talamore Senior Living in Sun Prairie, Madison Pointe Assisted Living in Madison, and Bristol Hospice for all of the wonderful care and attention they provided.

Per Robert's wishes he was cremated and there will be no funeral services. A Celebration of his Life will be held by the family on July 5th at Bowl-A-Vard Lanes, Madison, WI from 12-3 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations in his memory may be sent to Olbrich Botanical Gardens (Madison, WI), the River Food Pantry (Madison, WI), or Bristol Hospice, Madison, WI.
