Richard Harold Coats

July 14, 1955 — April 25, 2021

Richard Harold Coats, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2021, after a long battle with Cancer and Ataxia, at the age of 65. Richard, known as Rick, was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ruth Coats. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Deb Coats (Davis); his sister, Vicky Huddleston; his two children, Casey Coats and Carey Coats (Bodziak)and Chuck; and his two amazing grandchildren Jordan and Will. You would have loved Rick. He was the type of guy who lived up every moment and made everyone, and anyone, feel welcome. He was a man of many talents and always there to help, and if he didn’t know how…well he’d figure it out, or “Ricktify it”. Even though his adventures were cut short, he certainly made the most out of the time he was given; camping, boating, horseshoes, hunting, or just sitting by the fire at his summer home in the Dells with friends and family. If you are one of his friends, immediate family, or one of the many nieces and nephews, you already know all of this, but mostly you know first hand what a mark he left and how much he will be missed. Fighting for his life was exhausting; the mind wrestling constantly with the body. What peace his soul must feel, now to be rid of the burdens he felt at the end of his days. We are confident he slid into Heaven saying, “What a ride!” Please join us in celebrating Rick, Saturday May 15, 2021 at: VFW 301 Cottage Grove Rd. Madison WI, from 1-5pm.
