Raymond “Ray” St. Clair, Jr., age 100, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Ray was born on November 14, 1925 in Indiana, Pennsylvania to Raymond Sr. and Edna Grace (Cook) St. Clair. At age 17 he joined the United States Navy and served in the Construction Battalion during World War II. As a member of the 13th Battalion Seabees, Ray was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Johnston Atoll and Trinidad. On June 25, 1947, he married Marian Hile.
For 68 years, Ray and Marian made their home together in Indiana, Pennsylvania before relocating to Wisconsin. In his young adult years, Ray operated the Exxon service station on Oakland Avenue in Indiana. In 1954, he began work at FMC in Homer City. Ray enjoyed a long career with FMC working his way up to product line manager. As a technician in the Syntron Feeder Division, he traveled the country troubleshooting Syntron products. During retirement Ray was often found in his workshop troubleshooting a home or auto repair, caring for his pristine lawn and garden, or helping a neighbor. He and Marian often had a home improvement project in the works and enjoyed keeping a beautiful home where they loved to entertain. Ray valued relationships and spending time with family and friends to motorbike, hunt, fish, camp and ride rollercoasters with his granddaughters.
Ray is survived by his son, Robert (Betsy) of Belleville, Wisconsin; granddaughter, Sara (Damian) Martin of Eau Claire; granddaughter, Susan (Andrew) Babcock of New Berlin, Wisconsin; and great grandchildren, Benjamin, Ashley and Jackson Babcock.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 78 years, Marian; infant daughter, Brenda; son, James; and siblings, Helen, Louise, Kenneth, and infant William.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated professionals at Milestone Senior Living Eau Claire, Coventry Village (Madison, Wisconsin), and St. Croix Hospice (Eau Claire and Baraboo, Wisconsin offices) for their compassionate care and support of Ray and the family.
A private ceremony will be held at a later date with interment at Oakland Cemetery in Indiana, Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Indiana Lions Club Camp Orenda, 1278 Lions Health Camp Road, Indiana, PA 15701.
