Raymond Lyght

July 1, 1961 — December 13, 2024

We can believe that Raymond Westly Lyght was off to get bait and off to get beer, and so was “out of here” during the early morning hours of December 13, 2024. Susan was at Raymond’s side when he left us. They had faced a very difficult and brave struggle with disability and illness together. He was 63 years old and lived in Deerfield, WI.

Raymond was born in Platteville, Wisconsin on July 1, 1961. He graduated from Platteville High School in 1979, and obtained a degree in Machining Technology from Southwest Wisconsin Technical College. Raymond enjoyed his work as a delivery driver. He also worked as a machinist or in related work. Raymond was always up to the challenge of fixing anything. He was very gifted in his knowledge and understanding of maintaining machines and everything in need of fixing at home. He took pride in this amazing way of providing. Because Raymond always put his family and friends above other worldly things, he stayed calm and provided everything that was needed in his determined and caring way.

Raymond was a fisherman who dreamed of spending more time fishing. He often wanted to leave pressures behind; however, more than anything else, Raymond enjoyed spending time hanging out with his family in Platteville, WI and in his backyard with his Deerfield friends, wife Susan, and his beloved pets, Ginger and Sawyer. Raymond also spent a lot of time planning and preparing meals. He took pride in his love of cooking and always enjoyed sharing this gift with others. Raymond also had a love for spending time at the Dahl Family Dairy Farm where he could escape to find solitude with nature, animals, and helpful friends. Raymond was a lifelong Green Bay Packer fan and for decades looked forward to parties with his Deerfield Packer friends. He had an amazing memory and so he enjoyed reminiscing about good times with his friends and growing up in Platteville, WI. Raymond strived to be recognized for having a kind, fun-loving, and friendly heart that welcomed everyone.

A celebration of Raymond’s life will take place in the Spring in Platteville, Wis.

Ray is survived by his loving wife Susan Darrow, siblings Peggy Steffes (John), Terry Lyght (Angie Weaver), Janet Vinger (Jr Dolphin), Joann Tindell (David Bradford), Marilyn (Stan) Davis, Joann Rice (Dick), brother-in-law Todd Brogley, son Brandon Solberg, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Orville and Phyllis Jean Lyght, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Gerald and Sarah Darrow, sister Paula Lyght, nephews Justin Brogley and Brian Tindell, niece Jina Steffes, brother-in-laws Terry Vinger and Mark Tindell, and many half brothers and sisters.
