Michael Cummings

November 24, 1959 — February 28, 2026

Michael James Cummings, born November 24, 1959, in Peoria, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, in Middleton, Wisconsin, surrounded by his loving family.

Michael was born to James Allen Cummings and Gail Mary Cummings (Michael), and was raised in a close-knit Catholic family alongside his seven siblings. The faith instilled in him early in life remained a steady foundation throughout his years. He and his siblings embraced those values and carried them forward, passing them on to their own children and grandchildren.

Michael built a career in finance that moved his family from Illinois to Alabama, then to Florida, and eventually back to Illinois. Later, the family settled in Wisconsin, where they made their home for 20 years. In Wisconsin, Michael fully embraced his love for the outdoors. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, hiking, and swimming. Whether on a course, near the water, or around a campfire, he found joy in simple moments spent outside and with those he loved.

In his earlier years, Michael was an accomplished athlete, competing in swimming and triathlons, playing rugby, and participating in many recreational sports. His competitive spirit was matched by his determination and resilience—qualities that carried through every chapter of his life. He approached challenges with focus and resourcefulness.

Those who knew Mike will never forget his gift for storytelling. He had a way of drawing in a room—pausing at just the right moment, adding detail, and delivering a line with humorous timing. His laughter was contagious, his presence steady and reassuring. Family gatherings were brighter and warmer when Mike was present.

At the center of his life was his beloved wife, Marguerite L. Cummings (Pilcher). Their love story began at the age of five and grew over a lifetime of friendship, loyalty, and devotion. They were married on April 9, 1983, beginning a marriage that spanned more than four decades.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Marguerite, and their children: Allison Brandt (Greyling Brandt); Amanda Cummings (Christopher Vogel); Alex Cummings (Katie Sklenar Cummings); and Andrew Cummings (Mary Beth Loscocco Cummings).

His beloved grandchildren Gwendolyn (21), Blakeley (15), Greyling (14), May (11), Francesca (5), Penelope (3), and Hazel (newborn), brought him immense pride and joy. His children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews will especially remember his Donald Duck impressions, cat noises, and familiar fictional fish story: “Mmmm… not bad, but needs a little salt.” It was classic Mike—playful, warm, and delivered with a grin.

Michael is also survived by his siblings and their spouses: Mary Lynn (Phillip) Berkemeier, Catherine (Gerald) Wren, Angela (Phillip) Owens, Teresa (Michael) Green, Mark (Kelly) Cummings, Julie (David) Vaughn, and Kelly Cummings. He will also be missed by many beloved extended family members, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

He deeply valued his close, lifelong friendships—relationships that spanned childhood through every chapter of adulthood. Those bonds remained steady and meaningful, a testament to his loyalty and depth of character.

Michael will be remembered for his devotion to family, enduring faith, sense of adventure, and the humor that made everyday moments memorable. His legacy lives on in the family he raised, the faith he modeled, the relationships he cherished for a lifetime, and the stories and sayings that will be repeated for generations.
