Michael Andrew Thomason (Mike), 76 years old, passed away on January 11, 2021 at University of Wisconsin Hospital surrounded by his family after a long battle with Myasthenia Gravis and COVID-19.
Mike was born in St. Paul, MN where he spent most of his career working in the information technology industry. He enjoyed helping others. Mike went on many school field trips, ran the school’s computer lab and helped children learn to read. He also helped seniors by driving them to appointments and delivering meals during the holidays.
Mike and his wife of 40 years, Lisa, enjoyed going to Florida during the winter months. He enjoyed the warm weather, wine and cheese nights with the neighbors and reading by the pool. Mike also enjoyed traveling with Lisa to their timeshare in Cozumel and visiting other international destinations, including their most recent trip to Singapore. His other interests included watching shows about nature on PBS and trying new cafes and restaurants, especially those with fancy coffee and dessert.
In 2015, he and Lisa moved to Verona, WI to be closer to his daughter Kelly, her husband, Michael, and their three children. Mike's driving force during his final months was his desire to get strong enough to go home to see his family. It was very hard for him not to see them due to the COVID-19 safety measures. Before he got sick, his favorite thing to do was spend time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing with them, keeping up with their favorite cartoon characters and hobbies and could always be talked into a trip to Culvers for lunch and ice cream.
Mike is survived by his wife, Elizabetta (Lisa), and his daughters Kelly (Michael) Lonergan of Wisconsin, Ann (Pat) Wilkerson of Ohio, and Jennifer Houghton of Oregon, his nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Jones and Mary Thomason, and his brother, James Thomason.
Mike will be missed for his ability to listen, his practical approach to problem solving and his dry sense of humor. At Mike’s request, no services will be held.
