Mary Ruth Mason Griffin peacefully left this earth on May 13, 2023, from Madison, WI, almost 89 years after arriving on July 7, 1934, in Takoma Park, MD. She lived much of her life in various parts of Maryland and Washington, DC, then retired to Northern Florida for 25 years before coming to Wisconsin to be near her daughter after her husband's death.
Professionally she was an accountant, but she was talented in and enjoyed many activities including - crafting, cooking, sewing, gardening, reading, traveling, conversing, and spending time with family and friends.
Among the loved ones who survive her are two children, James Henry (Donna) Griffin and MaryLouise (Dennis McGilligan) Griffin; 7 grandchildren - Carol (Jules), James L. (Amy), Elizabeth, and William Griffin, and Tobin, Fiona, and Liam McGilligan; and a great-granddaughter on the way. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, James Ellsworth Griffin; her parents, Henry Lloyd Mason (nee Maisel) and Chlorus Ruth Kunkleman Mason; and many other family and friends.
She will be interred with her husband in the Foundry United Methodist Church Columbarium in Washington, DC, where they met and married and were active members for many years.
Recently a doctor asked her age and she guessed 85? When the doctor replied, "you are 88", she exclaimed, "WHAT!?! I made it to 88!?!" Hers was a life well-lived. She loved and was loved and will be greatly missed.
