Marvin Thomas Tanner, Sr., of Stoughton, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2022, at the age of 91.
‘Marv’ was born on March 5, 1931, in Ilion, New York. After serving 4 years in the Air Force during the Korean War, he travelled to California where he met the love of his life, Anna (Flaws). They were married for 55 years, before her passing in 2015.
He was the loving father to James (Sue Waldrop) Owens, Virginia (Jeff) Thompson, Kathleen (Brian) Liebman, Susan (Rick) Smith, and Marvin Tanner, Jr.; and proud grandfather to Kelly, Sarah, Dylan, Amanda, Wyatt, Zach, MacKenzie, and Jake.
He worked many jobs throughout his life including salesman, grocery manager, and maintenance for the McFarland School system. He always said that he never had to look for work because it always seemed to find him, many times working 3 jobs at a time. He was a hard worker and always proud to provide for his family.
In his free time and during retirement he enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, traveling throughout Wisconsin, and spending time in the Northwoods.
He loved to dance and sing, performing in several community theatre productions, and was always the last one off the dance floor at family weddings. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Stoughton Senior Center in their woodworking program and helping with Senior Olympics.
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Anna; his son, James; his parents, Leslie and Susan Tanner; his brother, Ronald Tanner; and sister, Marion Walsh. He is survived by his remaining children, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a private family burial, where he will be re-united with his wife, along with a celebration of his life to be announced later.
