Lon D Seffinga, passed away 2/4/25, at 76, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Lon’s wishes for his obituary: He said, “ Make it short, just write ‘HE HAD A BEARD!”
But he was so much more than that…
We know he’s cruising through the afterlife in his favorite cars, one being, his 1957 ford retractable hardtop.
There isn't enough paper in the world to write how many things Lon was to the people who knew and loved him. So we will just write the basics…
Lon was born on 2/20/1948 in Couderay, Wi. He was one of the last of Ma’ Potter’s kids, the local midwife in the area. That’s another story! He attended Couderay grade school + Winter highschool. He married the love of his life, Fran/Babe, in Dec 1973 and they had two children. They raised them in Couderay. They enjoyed countless hours, driving the kids and their buddies around the area to activities. As well as road tripped’ across the USA in their 1978 Black Van.
Lon operated the local gas station in town and later worked at Flambeau Correctional Center for 10 years teaching small engine repair classes before moving to Eau Claire.
He graduated from UWEC and received his bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Then moved to Madison and received his masters degree.
He then worked at the V.A hospital as a drug and alcohol counselor where he retired in 2010.
He enjoyed his retirement in Madison having fun with his grand children, and enjoying badger football and basketball games, and collecting model cars.
Lon was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2019 and fought a hard battle.
Lon passed away at home surrounded by his loving family, 2/4/25.
He is survived by his wife, Fran, 2 children, Calli Seffinga, Martha Seffinga/Spranger and David Spranger, and 5 grandchildren, Sam, Kevin, Alex, Allister, and Terra.
