Jeffrey "Jeff" Rains

Jeffrey “Jeff” Rains, age 66, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

Jeff was born on May 22, 1960, in Madison, Wisconsin, to JoAnn Rains.

Jeff was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Family was important to him, and throughout his retirement, he spent much of his time surrounded by the people he loved most.

Jeff worked for many years as a Union Carpenter. Even before retirement, you could often find him working, picking up a side job to keep busy, or lending a helping hand to a friend. Jeff had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed riding his ’98 Fatboy, making memories with his family, and, of course, taking a good nap during a football game.

One of Jeff’s greatest joys was being “Poppa Jeff”. He could often be found sitting in the front row at his grandchildren’s sporting events, proudly cheering them on. His grandchildren brought him immense happiness, and they will forever cherish the memories, love, laughter, and countless moments they shared with him.

Jeff will be deeply missed by his children, Shawn Rains, Mari Jo (Derrick) Stevens, and Ashley (Quan) Wirts; his beloved grandchildren, Lexi, Jaxx, Jeffery, Owen, Kingston, and Ryker; and his siblings, Vickie (Tom) Rains, Neil Rains, Beth Rains, Julie (Dave) Hull, and Cindy (Danny) Cook. He is also survived by extended family and many dear friends.

Jeff was preceded in death by his wife, Tori; his daughter, Jessica; and his mother, JoAnn.

While our hearts are broken that Jeff is no longer here, we find comfort in knowing that the love he gave us will never leave. We will miss his stubbornness, his smile, his laughter, and, most of all, simply having him here with us.

In lieu of a traditional service, a celebration of Jeff’s life will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. at The Sundown Saloon, 57 S. Stoughton Road, Madison, WI 53714. Family and friends are invited to come together to share memories, stories, laughter, and celebrate the life of Jeff
