Janet Marie Hauri (nee Moyer), age 86, passed away peacefully November 1, 2026.
She was born February 15, 1940 in Oswego, Indiana to Marjorie Fugate Moyer Smith and Felix Marcus Moyer. She was married to Alfred Hauri in 1958.
Janet is survived by her husband, Alfred Hauri, 6 children, Theresa Hauri (Mike Meyer), Wesley Hauri (Sandy), Debra Beebe (Mark), William Hauri (Karen), Brian Hauri (Michele Hobbs), Kathy Panayil (Tony), 13 Grandchildren and 9 Great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Mary Wesenberg and Linda Mould (Larry) as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by son, Joseph (Joe) Hauri, parents Marge Smith and Felix Moyer, brother Derwin Moyer, brother-in-law, Robert Wesenberg and in-laws Robert and Elise Hauri.
Family was Janet’s top priority. She was loving, caring, and supportive, always there sacrificing for others and putting her needs and desires last. She was a teacher and a peacemaker when needed. She enjoyed showing her daughters and many of her granddaughters how to crotchet and knit.
She was an avid crafter and could make most anything. She was known fondly as the ‘Mitten Lady’ at countless craft shows. If you came up with a design idea or picture, she could create it using knit, crotchet, sew, or quilt skills. She made countless dolls, doll clothes, toys, ceramics and afghans. She made many lap robes for the seniors at the VA hospital and local assisted living homes as well as friends and family.
Janet loved farm life with the many animals and gardening. Flower gardens were her specialty, but she also grew, canned, and preserved vegetables and meats for winter meals. She loved to “McGyver” solutions to any problems or issues that were presented.
She loved to go on travel adventures with her dear friend, Bev Heron. Together they went to Alaska and traveled many National Parks and places out West in Bev’s RV.
The family would like to thank all those who took care of her through her final months. Brenda helped make the end of her life more bearable through care and conversations. Special appreciation to Debra and her family for giving Mom a home through her illnesses with love, care, and devotion.
She leaves behind a lifetime of love, treasured memories and family and friends who will miss her daily. Her faith brought her comfort and shaped the way she cared for others. Those who love her find comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering, but singing (on key) and rejoicing with the Lord.
We will always remember her telling us, “Don’t judge until you walk a mile in their shoes.” and “Anything worth doing is worth doing well.”
As requested by Janet, there will be no formal funeral service. Those who wish to remember Janet are welcome to keep her and her family in their thoughts and prayers. God bless you and keep you.
