James Sullivan

Feb 28, 1949 — Sep 29, 2026

James Sullivan, of Sun Prairie passed away peacefully on September 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

James proudly served his country in the United States Army for 22 years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. James was a highly decorated veteran, awarded the Bronze Star for his courage and dedication to duty. His military service was an important part of his life, and he carried that same sense of dedication and loyalty into everything he did.

Beyond his service to his country, he had a deep passion for fixing and restoring classic cars, spending countless hours bringing vintage automobiles back to their former glory. He was a founding member of the Road Apples Car Club, sharing his love of classic cars with fellow enthusiasts for many years.

Above all, James's greatest pride and joy was his family. His love for his grandchildren was immeasurable. He loved hearing their stories, celebrating their achievements, and sharing his words of wisdom.

James was the beloved husband of Carla, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and countless memories.

He will be deeply missed by his children, Jennifer (Bob), Brian (Jen), and Michael (Amanda); and his seven cherished grandchildren, Denver, Lindsay (Jamari), Tierney, Finnegan, Corbin, Caitie, and Harper. James was especially excited to meet his first great-grandson, Ace, expected in just a few weeks — a joy the whole family will carry for him. His love and excitement for this newest member of the family will forever be a treasured memory.

James is also survived by his loving sister, Diana; sisters-in-law Janet and Clare; and many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and others whose lives he touched throughout the years.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the care staff at UW Hospital, including the Palliative Care Team, for the compassion, kindness, and support they provided to James and his family. The family also offers special thanks to Father Mike for his prayers, kindness, and spiritual support during this difficult time.

James leaves behind a lifetime of love, service, dedication, and memories that will remain in the hearts of his family and friends forever. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy will live on through the family he cherished so dearly and the many lives he touched.
