James Brown

August 12, 1956 — February 28, 2026

James “Brownie” Edward Brown, age 69, was born to Frederick and Patricia Brown on August 12, 1956, and left this world peacefully, surrounded by friends and family, on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Jim dedicated nearly 40 years of his life to working at Middleton Sport Bowl, a place that was far more than a job — it was a second home. Bowling was one of his greatest passions. Over the years, he bowled many 300 games and 800 series, achievements he was proud of, but what meant even more to him was sharing his love of the game with others.

He served as a junior bowling coach, assisted with Special Olympics athletes, and spent countless hours teaching his own children, nieces, nephews, and many local high school students how to bowl. Jim believed bowling was about more than scores; it was about confidence, discipline, sportsmanship, and community. He found joy in mentoring young bowlers and watching them grow both on and off the lanes.

He also enjoyed golfing at Pleasant View Golf Course, where he spent several years working as Food and Beverage Manager. Whether on the course, attending local stock car races, or watching sports, Jim appreciated life’s simple pleasures. Yet above all else, his greatest joy came from his grandchildren. His biggest smiles came from talking about them and attending their school events and musicals to cheer them on. He treasured watching them grow and was endlessly proud of each of them.

Jim, lovingly known as “Brownie,” lived a life marked by loyalty, humor, and a deep love for those closest to him. He had a way of making people feel seen, often with a quick smile, a story, or a witty joke. His presence filled a room, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Heather (Tony) Jacobson and Patricia (Bob) Bethke; his beloved grandchildren, Antonio Jacobson, Brandee Jacobson and Dominic Jacobson; his mother, Patricia Brown; his brothers, Mark (Becky) Brown and Patrick (Tina) Brown; He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy “TJ” Brandt; his father, Frederick “Fritz” Brown; his brothers, Jerome “Jerry” Brown, William Brown, and Scott “Herbie” Brown; and his nephew, Nicholas “Nick” Brown.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Denny and Tim O’Rouke, Richard Pulvermacher, Tyler and Allisa Brock, and Jeff Stroede for the love, support, and care they provided during Jim’s end of life. Your kindness and presence brought comfort during a difficult time and will never be forgotten.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at Middleton Sport Bowl, 6815 University Ave., Middleton, WI, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

In place of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to assist with final expenses. Donations can be sent via Venmo to @Heather-Jacobson-23
