Gwen Sierra Harman

On Saturday, January 2, 2021, Gwen Sierra (Johnson) Harman passed away peacefully at UW Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, in the presence and comfort of her youngest daughter. Gwen was born on May 14, 1932 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to beloved parents Nels and Lucille Johnson. Like her parents, Gwen was passionate about education and art. She found serenity and bliss in creating beautiful sculptures and jewelry throughout her life. Gwen was incredibly social and found joy in attending the First Unitarian Society, participating in the Chalice group, and engaging in hobbies such as camping and cross-country skiing with friends and congregation members. Gwen always appreciated the unending and generous support of those who were closest to her, and was always excited to help others. After retirement Gwen worked at the Middleton Senior Center for many years and found profound fulfillment in supporting others. When Gwen and her daughters settled permanently in Wisconsin, she enjoyed visiting family (her two daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren) in Madison and Milwaukee. Gwen loved her family very much and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She also loved her pet cats unconditionally throughout their years; her most recent cat Misty has found a new home with Gwen’s daughter. Gwen’s family will miss her very much. She brought love, joy, and determination to every family event and that light will shine forever. Due to restrictions related to COVID-19, there will be no public ceremony. No flowers or cards, please.
