George Gill

Dec 21, 1930 — Nov 1, 2026

George Gill passed away at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Madison, WI on November 1, 2026 at age 95.

George was born on December 21, 1930 in Madison, Wisconsin. Growing up in Madison, he developed an early appreciation for the city and its community before attending the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he earned his undergraduate degree. George served his country as military intelligence in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, during the Korean War.

Eventually George ventured to New York City to pursue his creative passions in modeling, acting, and theater. It was during summer stock theater that he met Mary Ann (Tolka) Gill, a costume designer, while she was measuring him. That meeting sparked a lifelong partnership, and after marrying and having their first child, they eventually chose to return to George’s hometown of Madison to settle down and raise their family.

Throughout their years raising a family in Madison, George and Mary Ann actively shared their love of the performing arts by helping a local classroom at Crestwood Elementary School put on annual plays. Together, they were also longtime members of the water aerobics community at Harbor Athletic Club. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the Harbor Athletic Club community for their warmth, camaraderie, and support over the years.

He is survived by his children, Alexis (Brian) and Chelsea (Danielle), his grandchildren, Logan, Quin, and Tyler. And many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ann, his brothers, Robert and James Gill and his nephew Greg.

The family will mourn in private, and no public funeral service will be held. In lieu of gifts or flowers, please consider honoring his memory by taking a loved one to attend and support a local theater production or by spoiling a family pet.
