Evon Ellenbolt Smith

August 24, 1942 — May 11, 2020

Evon Smith, age 77, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020 at the UW Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin after complications following a medical procedure. Evon was born on August 24, 1942 in Dodgeville, Wisconsin to Norman and Elda Ellenbolt. Shortly after her high school graduation, Evon moved to Madison, Wisconsin, where she pursued a career as a legal secretary for the UW Law School and several private attorneys. After marriage, she and her former husband, Don Smith, owned and operated Smitty's 4 Lakes Tavern during the 1970's. After several years, Evon returned to the State of Wisconsin where she retired in 2002 from the Department of Corrections. Evon truly loved life and lived life! Those lucky enough to know her have described her as strong, courageous, fiesty, witty, loving and generous. In her retirement, she enjoyed cheering on the Packers and Badgers, spoiling others with her cooking and baking, going "up nort", visiting the casino and traveling to Cape Cod. Most important and cherished to her though was spending as much time as possible with her friends and family. She was a very involved grandparent and adored her grandsons Lukas Ellenbolt and Colton Smith beyond measure! Evon is survived by her children Ron (Renee) Ellenbolt and Tim (LaVonne) Smith of Madison, WI; her siblings Richard (Sandy) Ellenbolt of Madison, WI and Elaine Cuccia of Centerville, MA; many nephews, nieces, cherished lifelong friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gary Ellenbolt and infant brother Con Leroy Ellenbolt. Evon was loved "to the moon and back" and will be in our hearts forever. In her honor, we ask that you be kind to others. A celebration of Evon's life will be held at a later date.
