Edward Henry Vidruk

April 19, 1939 — April 22, 2022

Edward H. Vidruk of Madison, WI, passed away on April 22 in his home after a long battle with cancer. He was 83 years old. As he did throughout his life, he faced cancer with strength, grit, and a sense of humor. Ed was born in Winnipeg, MB and spent his educational years studying across the United States. Ed was a scientist through and through, spending most of his life as a Neurophysiologist at the University of Wisconsin. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his wife of 58 years, Jan. They could be found anywhere from enjoying the local coffee shops and restaurants to paddling around the lake at their family cabin in Northwestern Ontario… but guaranteed, they were always together. Ed was not a man of many words, but what he said was worth listening to. He was a master of being “in the moment” before there was such a thing. He loved music of all genres and shared that love throughout his life, most notably every Christmas with friends and family during annual caroling parties. Ed was Father to Steve (Angie) Vidruk and Maria (Mac) Helseth. He was Grandfather to Abby Vidruk, Tim Vidruk, Wyatt Helseth, Bethany Vidruk, Ellery Helseth, and Kaz Helseth. Ed was always there for his family. It is hard to determine who was a bigger fan, Ed of his kids and grandkids, or his kids and grandkids of him. What is not disputed is the enormity of time and love that he had for them. Family will be holding a Celebration of Ed’s life on Monday May 2nd from 4pm- 7pm in the auditorium at The Arboretum in Madison, WI. A second Celebration will be held in Canada, early summer. In lieu of flowers, Ed’s family asks that donations be made to the Agrace HospiceCare or the Carbone Cancer Center. Our family will be forever indebted to the phenomenal care and medical expertise provided by both organizations throughout Ed’s battle.
