Earl Lee Morgan-Heft, age 63, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones at the UW Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. He was born on April 11, 1962, in Madison, Wisconsin, and spent most of his life in western Wisconsin near the Wisconsin River, a place he deeply loved.
Earl devoted much of his life to the open road as a semi-truck driver, traveling across the country and finding both purpose and peace behind the wheel. His career was marked not only by dedication and hard work, but also by extraordinary courage. In June of 2020, Earl was named a Highway Angel by the Truckload Carriers Association after he bravely freed a father and son from their burning vehicle following a multi-vehicle accident—an act that reflected his selflessness and instinct to help others without hesitation.
Outside of work, Earl found great comfort in fishing and felt most at home in the outdoors. He cherished quiet moments in nature and equally enjoyed sharing memories and stories from his many years on the road with those around him.
Earl was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Watson; his father, Dean Heft; his son, Carl Towsley, and Nick Wells.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Morgan-Heft; his children Jenny (Patrick) Fitzsimons, Sara (Josue) Estrada, Tara Morgan, Beth Wells (Jose De La Torre), Rich Towsley, and Autumn Heft; his grandchildren: Alicia and Hypatia; Bobbi, Samara, Jadea, and Aiden; Hunter; Aiden, Angel and Morgan; Jordan, Dominic, Tristin, Tyler, and Winter; Donavin, Rich, and Carl; Great-grandchildren: Barrett and Lilyana; Sisters: Gloreen, Thersa and Vicki; and Favorite Uncle: Earl Lee (Iva) Heft.
A private memorial service will be held on April 11, 2026, at the Loyd Community Center.
The family respectfully requests no flowers. Donations may be made to the family to assist with medical costs and funeral costs.
Earl will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend—an everyday hero whose strength, kindness, and quiet bravery left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
