February 7, 1938 — May 10, 2026

Douglas G Fyksen, age 88, of Merrimac WI passed away peacefully at home on May 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Douglas was born on Monday, February 7th, 1938, in Marshfield, WI to George and Esther Fyksen. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather who cherished the time he spent with every member of his family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia of 57 years, his youngest daughter Denise, both of his parents, and all his siblings.

Douglas is lovingly survived by his children: Brian (Jane) Fyksen of Marshfield, WI; Dawn (Mike) Orlovsky of New Berlin, WI; Debbie (Brett) Roznos of Merrimac, WI; Minh (Nea) Lu (considered family and loved as a son) of Clear Lake, Iowa and his Son-in-law John Condon of West Allis, WI. He was also a proud grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as a proud “Papa” to his great-great grandchildren.

Douglas served in the United States Army. Following his time in the service he had several jobs. Most notably dedicating 30 years of service to the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District prior to his retirement. Following retirement, he and his wife relocated to Eagle River, WI where they built many lasting friendships and enjoyed their years together in the Northwoods. After his wife passed away, he moved back to West Allis for a few years until covid hit. In 2019, Douglas moved to Merrimac, WI, where he enjoyed life on the farm, the peace of the country air and all the animals that surrounded him. It was there that he spent the remainder of his years until his passing.

Douglas found great joy in trapping, hunting, fishing, and gardening; Hobbies that brought him peace and happiness throughout his life. His faith and devotion to God were an important part of his life. He routinely attended the men’s Bible study group and Sunday morning services at Merrimac United Methodist Church. The family extends a special appreciation to Bruce England for providing reliable and continuous transportation to these cherished gatherings as well as his friendship and kindness.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to AGrace and their compassionate team, especially Kevin, Megan and Carla, for their outstanding and loving care. The family would also like to recognize Dr. Kevin Vogt and his team for the outstanding care he provided Douglas. In addition, the family sincerely thanks Nicole, Danielle, Tiana and Destiney for the compassion, support and loving care they provided during the final months of his life.

A celebration of life will be held on July 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Merrimac United Methodist Church, with a luncheon to follow at the Merrimac Conservation Club.
