Donald R. Schulpius

Dec 18, 1933 — Aug 19, 2026

Donald R. Schulpius, 92, of Marshall, WI, formerly of St. Germain, WI, passed away peacefully at home on August 19, 2026.

Don was born on December 18, 1933 in Milwaukee, WI, where he began his working life alongside his father, Roy, truck farming, a trade also known as market gardening. A highlight of each season was the harvest of white asparagus, which was sold to the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. That early work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit would define his life.

After moving to St. Germain, Don became a small business owner, eventually expanding into construction contracting and the convenience store business. He was deeply invested in his community, serving in the Lions Club and helping found the St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club. Don played a central role in building the snowmobile trail system in Vilas County and designed and built the first snowmobile trail groomers under the Arrowhead Groomer name. His contributions to the sport earned him the title of International Snowmobiler of the Year in the 1980s, and in 2017 he was inducted into the Snowmobile Hall of Fame, a well-deserved recognition of a lifetime of dedication.

In his later years, Don embraced retirement with the same enthusiasm he brought to everything, spending many happy seasons fishing in Florida and Canada.

Don is survived by his wife, Harriet Schulpius; son Daniel Schulpius (Patti); son Michael Schulpius; daughter Sandra Gardner (Nick); grandchildren Jill, Amber, Isabella, and Corbin; and many great and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johanna and Roy Schulpius; his sister, Mary Vogel; and his brother, Richard Schulpius.

A Funeral Mass and celebration of Don's life will be held September 11, 2026 at 11am at St. Mary Nativity Church in Marshall, WI.
