Dolores Marie Wurtz

February 10, 1930 — May 1, 2022

Dolores Marie Wurtz died on May 1, 2022, at age 92 following a brief illness. She was born February 10, 1930, in Akron, OH to Hershel and Edith Marie Sloan. She graduated from Greensburg High School and started work as a secretary at the Hoover Company in North Canton, OH. Later, she worked at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, OH and at Cooper Industries in Mt. Vernon, OH. During her time at Cooper Industries she was a part of the Cooper Girls Club and contributor to their annual cookbook. She also taught typing at a local vocational school. She ended her secretarial career as Executive Secretary to the Vice President at Cooper Industries. She moved with her husband to Rutherfordton, North Carolina in 1996 following her retirement and had a second, successful career in women’s fashion with the Tanner Company. While at Tanner, she received awards for highest sales volume; she was also asked to present her sales strategies to the company’s regional managers and store personnel. She moved to Wisconsin following her husband’s death and lived there with her daughter, Pamela. She was strong, intelligent, and resilient, a working woman and a talented homemaker and cook. She encouraged and made possible her children’s academic and professional successes; she was very proud of their college educations. She loved decorating her home, especially for holidays; she loved fashion, especially shoes; she loved reading and roses; she was always ready for a day trip – her driving was OK but she could not be trusted to navigate. She was a wonderful wife, adored mother, and devoted grandmother – she always put her family first. She was diagnosed with vascular dementia six years ago, but she remained unfailingly sweet, cheerful, and gracious. She was predeceased by her husband, James Wurtz, Sr. and her sisters Margaret Affolter and Phyllis Upton. She is survived by her brother, Jerry (June) Sloan of Green, OH; her children, Marsha Wurtz of Manheim, PA, Pamela (Timothy) Smith of Stoughton, WI, and James (Michelle) Wurtz Jr. of Mokena, IL; grandchildren Adam and Caroline Moskowitz, Jane (Kaushik) Rathi, Kipp Smith, Katherine and Allison Wurtz; great grandchildren Vance and Norah Rathi and Camdyn Smith and numerous nieces and nephews who knew her as Aunt Tudy. Interment will be at 11am on June 11, Greensburg Cemetery, Green, Ohio.
