In Loving Memory of Dennis Lee Sjoquist

July 18,1973 - March 28, 2025

Dennis Lee Sjoquist, 51, of Iron Mountain, Michigan, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025, following complications from a lung transplant.

Early Life and Faith

Dennis grew up in Highland, Indiana and attended Hessville Baptist Church and Calumet Baptist Schools, graduating in 1992. Early in his life, Dennis placed his trust in Jesus Christ who died in his place to pay the penalty for his sins, forgave him, and now has taken him home to be with Him. Though an imperfect follower of Jesus in his earthly journey, Dennis ultimately leaned on the One who continually forgives, helps, and sustains those who trust Him.

Work and Passions

Throughout his life, Dennis worked as a steelworker, lumberjack, foundry worker, and maintenance worker. He loved music, in particular he enjoyed playing his guitar and writing songs. He had a deep love for the outdoors, finding joy in camping and especially fishing. Despite health challenges in his later years, Dennis took every opportunity to spend time in nature, finding peace and serenity in the world that God created.

Health Journey

Dennis was born with a genetic condition that affected his lung function. By the early 2020’s, his respiratory capabilities had become severely limited. With courage and hope, he underwent a double lung transplant in April 2023 at the University of Wisconsin Madison’s Transplant Clinic. Though the medical and support staff provided exemplary care, Dennis ultimately succumbed to complications from rejection.

Family

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Ann (Cook) Sjoquist and Dale Curtis Sjoquist.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Donna Watson of Norway, Michigan; four brothers, Curt & Margaret Sjoquist of Highland, Indiana, Doug & Sandy Sjoquist of Wilmington, Ohio, Greg & Joan Sjoquist of Clearwater, Florida, and Brian & Julie Sjoquist of Dunbar, Wisconsin; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who cherished him.

Final Farewell

Dennis’s family will be celebrating his life and memory privately as they thank God for his ultimate healing as he is now home with his Savior, Jesus.

His gentle spirit and determination in the face of health challenges and struggles, and love for the simple joys of life will be remembered by all who knew him.

For those wishing to honor Dennis’s memory, the family suggests considering organ donation awareness or supporting the University of Wisconsin Madison’s Transplant Clinic.
