Dennis John Dreyer, 81, of Portage, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2024, under the amazing care of the medical staff at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. Born on November 6, 1942, in Portage, Wisconsin, he lived a life marked by service to his country, love for the outdoors, and dedication to his family. He will be sorely missed by friends and family alike.
A proud veteran, Dennis served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His military tenure was characterized by the work ethic and resilience that would later define his professional and personal pursuits, including his deep passion for hunting, fishing, trapping, and farming pumpkins. An outdoorsman at heart, Dennis found solace and joy in the natural world, which was evident in his meticulous care of his pumpkin farm.
Dennis is survived by his children, Heather Charpentier (Kevin), and Tim Dreyer; and grandchildren, Charles and Lucille Charpentier. A special thanks to all of the extended family, friends, and health care professionals who lovingly cared for Dennis during his health struggles of the last few years and extended his long run at the farm. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, particularly within his tight-knit family circle.
Services to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, August 9th, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 850 Armstrong St, Portage, WI 53901. Visitation will be from 11:00am to 12:45pm, followed by the service at 1:00pm. Attendees are invited to a picnic at Sunset Park, 1217 W Pleasant St, Portage, WI 53901, beginning at 2:00pm, to continue sharing memories of Dennis.
Dennis's legacy is carried forward not only through his family but also through the countless lives he touched with his generosity, spirit, and love for life. He will be deeply missed.
