Dennis "Denny" Norman Blackmore, age 82, peacefully passed away on November 20, 2023, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on August 12, 1941, in Middletown, Ohio, to his loving parents, Leah and Thomas Blackmore.
Denny met his wife, Jean, while stationed at Truax Field in Madison, WI, just after Jean graduated from Nursing School. As a dedicated husband, and father to his children, Laura, Heather, and Christopher, he showed loving kindness, patience, empathy, and gave hugs like no other.
After Denny served in the Air Force from 1961 to 1965, he attended the University of WI La Crosse where he graduated in January 1969 with a degree in Education, with emphasis in English and History.
A man of wisdom and compassion, Denny dedicated his professional life as a high school English teacher at McFarland High School for 29 years. He was not only an educator but also a mentor, nurturing the talents of his students and helping them discover their potential.
Denny found strength in his faith, being a charter member of the McFarland United Church of Christ. His commitment to his spiritual community was unwavering, and his leadership and contributions will be remembered with gratitude.
Beyond his professional and spiritual endeavors, Denny and Jean traveled to many countries including Russia, Italy, Greece, England, Scotland, and Germany, with the Coastal Fjords of Norway being his favorite destination. Closer to home, he and Jean visited all 50 states, enjoying their final state, Hawaii, on a Hawaiian Cruise in October 2023 to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.
Denny's love for music was evident as he sang in the church choir and played his baritone in the Tuba Christmas Concert at the WI State Capitol. He also enjoyed the serenity of nature through biking and camping. He ran many marathons and other races throughout his 40s and 50s. He was an avid collector of flags and enjoyed educating others on their history.
Denny had a generous spirit and a commitment to social justice. He believed in the power of politics to effect positive change.
Denny is survived by his wife, Jean (Wilson) Blackmore; daughter, Laura (Glen) Edwards; daughter, Heather Blackmore; son, Christopher (Lori) Blackmore; grandkids: Kieran, Rhys, and Niamh Edwards, Hannah and Nadia Blackmore, and Gwen and Claire Hofmeister; sister, Mary Ann (Ray) Meredith; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and nephews.
