Denise Mazarra

May 3, 1961 — July 5, 2022

Denise M. Mazzara passed away on July 5, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer. Denise was born on May 3, 1961 to Donald and Diane (Dulin) Schlimgen. She graduated from LaFollette High School in 1979, and even before graduation began her career in the financial services industry at what was then, First Wisconsin Bank. In the early '90s, she went back to school part time, worked full time while raising her family and, received a Bachelor's degree from Lakeland College in 1995. She was a Client Relationship Manager for Madison Investment Advisors for the past 13 years and will be greatly missed by both her clients and co-workers. She was a loving and devoted mother to her children, Steven and Rachel, and always made sure they had everything they needed, from soccer shoes to sleep-over camps and everything in between, but she also taught them by example to be strong, independent adults. She loved animals, enjoyed cooking, walking, and spending time with family and friends. Denise is survived by her children, Steven Mazzara and Rachel (partner, Jacob) Mazzara; her brother, Dean Schlimgen; her brother, David (Lisa) and nephew, Michael Schlimgen; and her half-sister, Kristin (Peter) Antonie and their family. It was such a gift to her that she got to know Kris and her family and spend a great deal of time with them in the last year. She is further survived by her ex-husband, Greg, and his family, and had a loving relationship with his mom, Jane; his siblings, Joe (Lisa), Tom (Kathy), and Sue (Bruce); and the many Mazzara nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dawn; and brother-in-law, Jeff Mazzara. A Celebration of Life for friends and family will be held at the John Wall Family Pavilion at Tenney Park on August 28th from 12:00pm to 3:00pm . Memorials can be made in her name to the Dane County Humane Society, Angel's Wish of Verona, or a charity of your choice.
