Deborah "Deb" Mateika, age 42, of Rockford, Il, passed away on January 12, 2024. She was born in December 1981, in Rockford, IL, to Robert Diaz and the late Heidi Diaz.
Debbie was a loving wife, proud parent, and fierce cancer fighter. She was known for her strength, dedication, and passion in all aspects of her life. Debbie's family meant the world to her, and she leaves behind her beloved husband, Samuel Mateika, and their children, Madelynn, Matthew, Morgan, and Charlotte. She is also survived by her father, Robert Diaz, her sisters Melissa (Brian) Parrett, Kathryn (Andrew) Rungren, and Jahdzia Diaz, as well as her father-in-law, Christopher Mateika, and mother-in-law, Patricia Mateika.
Debbie attended Guilford High School and later pursued higher education at Kendall College. She also served in the Air Force National Guard for 6 years.
Professionally, Debbie excelled as a teacher and instructional coach for Rockford Public Schools. She was an advocate for early childhood students, firmly believing in education through play. She carried that into her coaching to ensure teachers in the district could give students their best chance to thrive. She made a positive impact on the lives of countless students and colleagues throughout her career.
Outside of work, Debbie had a variety of hobbies that brought her joy. She enjoyed yarn crafts, card making, and exploring the benefits of essential oils.
A celebration of life will be held in honor of Debbie this coming fall. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Cremation Society of Madison located in Madison, WI.
Debbie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family, friends, and the community she served.
