Darleen “Dar” Cooley Laufenberg passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023, after a long illness. She was born March 25, 1942, in Lancaster, WI, to Nelson and Leola Cooley.
After graduating from high school, she moved up to Madison to start her impressive 40-year career with the Dane County District Attorney’s office. She started in 1965 as a typist and worked her way up to a Victim Witness Specialist until the time of her retirement. The oldest of 7 kids, she had a heart of gold, was the leader and made sure everyone was taken care of. She was a single mom to 2 boys, Craig and Scott, whom she loved dearly. Dar was an avid gardener and loved to read. One of her favorite past times was going to musicals and plays. She will be fondly remembered by everyone who knew her for her hard work and determination which she would tell you she needed to raise her 2 boys on her own.
She is survived by her boys: Craig (Shana) Laufenberg of Lancaster and Scott Laufenberg of Madison; granddaughter, Nicole Laufenberg of Hazel Green; 2 sisters, Sharon (Dave) Adams and Cindy Cooley, both of Albany; as well as 2 nieces, a great nephew and great niece, and many other relatives. She will be missed dearly by her cat, Lightning.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Coleen and Karen; 2 brothers, Mark and Nelson; as well as many other relatives.
Dar’s family would like to thank Agrace for their care and compassion for Dar during her last few days. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
