Madison

Cassandra "Gus" "Tootie” Joy (Anundson) Grueneberg of Madison, WI, unexpectedly passed away on Monday, May 29th, at the age of 80.

She was born on November 9, 1942, in Madison, Wisconsin, as the first of four children to Sophie and Herbert Anundson. Gus attended Madison Central High School and graduated in 1960. Years proceeding, she married her former husband, Gene McKiernan, and had three children.

Gus's life was filled with adventures across the world and simple joys like working at Kwik Trip after retirement, watching gameshows, having lunch with her girls, spending time with her family, friends, neighbors, and, of course, her dog, Ceelo.

She is survived by her children, Kelly Steinberg, Gene McKiernan Jr, and Colleen Crapp; her former husband, Gene (Victoria) McKiernan; her grandchildren, Britni Steinberg, Brady (Kayla) Steinberg, Samantha (Aaron) Kane, Gabrielle Crapp, and Ryley (Jenna) Marty; her four great-grandchildren, Bronsyn and Aurora Kane; and Kinsley and Finnegan Marty. She is also survived by many other family and friends; and lastly, her beloved dog, Ceelo. She is predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Sophie Anundson; her three brothers, Dennis, Stanley, and Gary Anundson; her daughter-in-law, Donna Latus; her former dog, Calvin; and many other family members and friends.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to relatives and friends who have reached out for support, as well as neighbors who have assisted, not only when Gus was still with us, but also in the days succeeding.

Per Gus’s wishes, she will be cremated with a celebration of life at the Parkside Pub in McFarland on June 17th from 12-3 p.m.
