Carol Esther VanDerslice

November 30, 1927 — November 19, 2020

On Thursday, November 19, 2020 Carol Esther (Pleyte) VanDerslice ended her days at Hyland Crossings, Sun Prairie, WI. at the age of 92. Preceding her in death were her parents Dr. Arthur A. and Esther C. Pleyte, her son-in-law Ray Alan (DeSota) and her loving husband William Dunlevy after 69 years of marriage. Surviving her are her sister Aimee (Everitt), and children John and Barb, Chris and John (Ainslie), Maggie (DeSota), and Kate and Guy (Schultz). As well as grandchildren Aaron and Sheila, Liz and Ed (Craig), Mike S. and Melissa, Dave and Triumph (Ainslie), Ben and Stephanie (Ainslie) James and Caitlin (DeSota), Mike P. and Shelby (Schultz), Laura and Scott (Tickner), and Jake and Audra (Schultz), in addition to seven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Born in 1927 in Milwaukee, WI, she graduated from Riverside High School and married her sweetheart Bill in 1946. Taking their four children they moved to a log home on the shores of Lake Michigan in 1965. With the children grown, Bill and Carol moved to Waupaca, WI where they lived many happy years and where they volunteered for the Waupaca library and Meals on Wheels. Imaginative and resourceful, Carol crafted annual Christmas ornaments to gift to members of the Waupaca community who provided service and kindness throughout the year. After Bill’s death in 2015, Carol moved to Sun Prairie, WI to be closer to her daughter Chris. Ever a creative and artistic spirit, Carol filled her life with sketching, painting, sewing little girl's dresses and dolls and big girl’s flannel nighties. She surrounded her home inside and out with beauty and music and was an avid reader and gardener. Inquisitive and whimsical, Carol followed the Apollo space program, enjoyed Packer football, submarine and swashbuckler movies, and welcomed all birds to her colorful gardens. She was a fashioner of snowflakes, a wind whistler, creator of magical Halloween costumes, baker of stuffed Christmas crepes, and apple and lemon meringue pies. A loving friend, daughter, wife and mother, she will be missed by many. The family is grateful for the care and friendship Carol received from the staff of Hyland Crossings, Sun Prairie, and for the care received from the compassionate staff of Rainbow Hospice.
