Carl J. DiMartino of Madison, Wisconsin, entered into the presence of the Lord unexpectedly on September 29, 2026. A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, at All Saints Lutheran Church in Fitchburg.
Born August 14, 1978, at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan to Dorothy L. Silva and Carl R. DiMartino, he was affectionately referred to as “Little Carl” or “CJ” when he was young, though he was never little in stature nor in his personality. His athleticism was apparent from a very young age. Carl was talented at many sports, but his favorite was baseball. He loved to play, watch, and even just talk about baseball. He graduated from Memorial High School in Madison in 1997.
Carl was able to fulfill his dream of playing baseball as an adult with his close friends on the Eco Tap team in the Madison Baseball League, winning the city championship in 2007. He was an avid fan of Wisconsin sports, with the Brewers holding a special place in his heart, followed closely by the Packers, Bucks, and Badgers. He never forgot a statistic and could recall plays from games years in the past. Carl also loved fantasy football and fantasy baseball, taking great pride in winning his fantasy baseball league in 2022. He enjoyed hunting and spending time at the cabin he helped to build with his dad and their hunting buddies.
Carl was a valued and loyal Verlo employee for many years. He also worked as a custodian at All Saints Lutheran Church for several years, a job he particularly enjoyed. He liked working at night and found moments of peace and tranquility in the sanctuary. It seems fitting that the church that provided him with those quiet moments will now be the place where family and friends gather to remember and celebrate his life.
Carl lived with Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 1 (SCA1), a progressive neurological condition that ultimately contributed to his early passing. Despite the challenges it brought, Carl's life was defined by the people and things he loved most. He was always most proud of his daughters, Haley and Taylor, and loved watching them participate in dance and sports. Their accomplishments brought him tremendous pride and joy. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
Carl is survived by his daughters, Haley and Taylor; his sisters, Sara (Michael) Kirwan and Michelle (Lewis) Slawny; his best friends, Aaron and Brent; as well as his nieces, nephew, and great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and his cousin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Lutheran Church or the National Ataxia Foundation, which supports research and families affected by ataxia, or to a charity of your choice, in memory of Carl.
