Alice M. Hinders

March 30, 1929 — March 10, 2021

Alice M. Hinders, age 91, of Middleton, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, March 10, 2021. She was born on March 30, 1929, in Marshalltown, Iowa, daughter of Emil and Dena (Grimmius) Stickfort. Alice attended school in Holland and Grundy Center, graduating in 1947. She married Marvin Ray Hinders on April 5, 1949, at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church parsonage. Alice worked for several years at the Spokesman Press in Grundy Center. In 1961 Alice and Marvin moved to Reinbeck. From 1967 until her retirement in 1991 she worked in housekeeping at Parkview Manor. Alice enjoyed people and was always ready to go, no matter what time of day or night. The coffee pot was always on and she welcomed friends, relatives, and neighbors for some sweet treats and conversation. Her easy laugh and spirit made for many good times. Alice especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their events. A favorite memory of Marvin and Alice was their 50th wedding anniversary where they were surprised with a performance by the Interfaith Men’s Chorus. Alice was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Reinbeck where she served as a deacon, a custodian, and participated in women’s groups and Bible study. In 2018 Alice relocated to Middleton, Wisconsin, to be closer to her daughter. They had many fun times together and it was truly a treasured time for both of them. Alice is survived by daughter, Sandra (Dennis) Jacobson of Middleton, Wisconsin; son, Curtis Hinders of Marion, Iowa; grandchildren, Adam (Sarah) Jacobson, Michael Jacobson, Lucas Hinders and Cole Hinders (mother Pam), and Jessica Hinders (mother Penny). She is further survived by great grandchildren, Kayden, Mason, and Hayden, sisters-in-law, Marlys and Mae, and several nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin, and two sons, Douglas and Alan. A memorial service is planned for May 22 at 10:30 at the First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck. She is greatly missed already. “We all have an unsuspected reserve of strength inside that emerges when life puts us to the test.” Isabel Allende
